Tips & tricks

📡

GPS lock before you drive

Turn your camera on and wait for the GPS icon to go solid before setting off. If you start recording immediately after powering on, the first few minutes of GPS data may be inaccurate or missing.

🔋

GPS drains battery faster

On long drives, keep your Insta360 plugged in via USB-C. GPS recording uses significantly more power than video alone — a 3-hour drive will drain the battery without charging.

🚗

Best mounting positions

Roof mount or suction windscreen mount gives the clearest GPS signal and best 360° footage. Avoid placing the camera in the footwell or dashboard cubby — the roof obstruction blocks satellite signal.

🎬

Split long drives

For drives over 2–3 hours, consider splitting into sections and uploading separate routes. Each route gets its own map, comments, and video — easier for viewers to follow and easier to manage your files.

📸

Cover photo timing

The best cover photos are taken at the most dramatic moment of the drive — a sweeping corner, a hilltop view, or the destination itself. Screenshots from your video work perfectly.

⚠️

Add hazard markers

Found a pothole, speed camera, or scenic viewpoint? Use the hazard markers on the route page to pin it for other drivers. Your community reports help everyone on the same road.
