Insta360 X5
Step 1 — Enable GPS Activity Stats
Same process as the X4. Requires Insta360 app v1.73.0 or later and Bluetooth enabled on your phone.
- Open the Insta360 app and make sure your camera's time is synced with your phone
- Tap Me at the bottom of the app
- Tap GPS Activity Stats and authorise GPS access when prompted
- Tap Start Recording — keep the app open on the GPS page when you start your drive
- Once recording, you can switch to other apps — the camera doesn't need to stay connected
- Swipe right in the app to stop GPS recording when you're done
💡 The X5 uses GPS + GLONASS + Galileo for better accuracy than older models, especially in towns and under tree cover. GPS doesn't work in Timelapse, Slow Motion, or Bullet Time modes.
Step 2 — Export GPX from Insta360 Studio
- Open Insta360 Studio (version 4.5 or later recommended for X5 support)
- Import your X5 footage into the library
- Select your clip
- Click GPS in the editing toolbar — your route will appear on the map preview
- Click Export GPX
- Save the
.gpxfile somewhere you can find it easily
💡 If you shot in 8K on the X5 and Insta360 Studio is slow, you don't need to export the full video first — GPS export works directly from the raw files without rendering.
X5 log file (alternative method)
If Studio can't find GPS data, try extracting it from the raw files:
- Connect your X5 to your computer via USB or remove the SD card
- Navigate to the
DCIM/folder on the card - Alongside your
.insvvideo files, look for a.gpsor metadata log file with the same filename - Tools like Gyroflow Toolbox or exiftool can also extract GPS tracks from the video metadata directly
