Who we are
OurHorizonGrid is a community platform for sharing road journey videos and routes. It is operated as part of the OurGrid family of platforms. References to "we", "us", or "our" mean OurHorizonGrid.

What we collect and why
Account information
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store the plain-text password). We use this to authenticate you and personalise your experience.
Content you upload
Photos, videos, GPX route files, captions, comments, and hazard reports you submit are stored on our servers. This content is necessary to provide the service.
GPX & location data: Route files may contain GPS coordinates. We offer an optional privacy trim that removes the first and last 500 m of a route before it is stored, so your home address is not visible. This is ticked by default but you can turn it off. If you upload without trimming, the full GPS trace is stored and shown on the map.
Usage data
We log view counts on routes and media. We do not use third-party analytics services (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel). Our web server logs IP addresses for security purposes; these are not linked to your account and are not retained beyond 30 days.

See our Cookie Policy for full details. In short: we use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and browser localStorage to remember preferences (unit system, posts you've liked). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account
- To display your content to other users
- To send you notifications (within the platform — we do not send marketing emails)
- To improve the platform and fix bugs
- To respond to support enquiries
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Who we share data with
We share data only where necessary to operate the service:
- Hosting provider — our servers are hosted with a data centre provider. Your data is stored on those servers.
- Email delivery — if we send you a transactional email (e.g. password reset), it is sent via Mailgun. We do not send marketing emails.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your content and personal data is removed within 30 days. Anonymised aggregate statistics (e.g. total route views) may be retained indefinitely.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
If you are based in the UK or EU, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ourhorizongrid.com. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (UK supervisory authority).
Security
We use HTTPS for all data in transit. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password.
Children
OurHorizonGrid is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
