Install the Android app
Step 1 — Download & install
The app isn't on the Play Store yet, so Android will ask you to confirm installing from outside the store — that's expected.
- On your phone, tap Download OurHorizonGrid for Android (v0.24)
- Once it's downloaded, open the file from your notifications or Downloads folder
- If prompted Install unknown apps, tap Settings and allow it for your browser — then go back and tap install again
- Open the app once it's installed
Step 2 — Sign in & set up the overlay
- Sign in with the same email and password you use on the website
- Tap Open Settings → to grant the overlay permission, then allow Display over other apps for OurHorizonGrid
- Back in the app, tap Start floating reporter
- Open Google Maps and start driving — a small ! bubble floats on top. Tap it to reveal one-tap buttons for Hazard, Pothole, Camera and Police, and drag the bubble anywhere on screen
💡 The app also warns you before known cameras and hazards — it flashes red and says "Check speed" or "Hazard ahead" as you approach, using both your own community's reports and a seeded database of ~3,400 UK fixed speed cameras.
Step 3 — Browse routes & get directions
- Tap 🗺 Open Map on the app's home screen to browse the full site without leaving the app
- Find a route or stop you like, then tap Open in Google Maps ↗ or Get directions →
- Google Maps opens directly with turn-by-turn directions from your current location
